Composer Notes: I met Greg when we served together in the Air Force Academy Band during the Vietnam War. I wanted to compose a quiet, mysterious piece for Greg and his wife Janet to perform in recital.

I composed a few atonal and seemingly non-metric works before I began focusing on more tonal and audibly metered materials. Although I’ve withdrawn most of my early atonal works, I remain fascinated by this work’s quiet, melancholy lyricism.
